USGA State Team Selection Process
The USGA State Team is a team championship that is played every other year. Each state selects three players to constitute its team.

The format for the event is 54-holes of stroke play with the two lowest 18-hole scores counting in each round.

The selection of the USGA State Team will be as follows:

  • The 2017 player of the year points in their entirety and the 2018 player of the year points through the Illinois State Amateur Championship will be used. The two years will be combined to formulate a list of eligible players.
  • The Special Competitions Committee together with the CDGA Tournament Department will make the final selection for the team.

At the current time, the event does not allow participation from college players due to NCAA regulations.

The Selection Committee will consider the total points obtained by each player but such point position will not be controlling.

The following criteria will be considered:
  • The competitive record of the person in 2018 compared to 2017.

  • The player's past performance in USGA Championships.

  • The player's performance in other national events.
