PRZYBYLSKI/SEELINGER OVERCOME LAYOFF, RARE DEFICIT TO NOTCH THREE-PEAT
Thursday, October 2, 2025 - OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - When Glenn Przybylski (Frankfort / Sanctuary GC) underwent back surgery in June, one word was motivating him throughout recovery and his gradual return to the golf course. Three-peat. “I just started playing around Labor Day and really wanted to try to get ready for the [Illinois State] Senior Am, as well as this event,” said the 58-year-old. He was ready. Przybylski and partner Greg Seelinger (Downers Grove / Cantigny Golf) claimed the CDGA Senior Amateur Four-Ball Championship for a third consecutive time on Thursday, besting John Wright (Oswego / Oak Brook GC) and John Finnin (Frankfort / Olympia Fields CC), 3 and 2, in the Championship Match Thursday morning on Olympia Fields Country Club’s South Course. “It's just a real treat to come up on top,” Przybylski said. “I really wanted to win one for him,” Seelinger, 59, added. “I know it's been hard to be out the whole year and then come in and play in this tough competition.” Despite the long layoff, Przybylski and Seelinger picked up right where they left off after their previous two triumphs. The duo carded a 3-under 69 in Monday’s stroke play round to earn the No. 5 seed in match play. They then earned their spot in Thursday’s finale with 4-and-3, 5-and-4 and 4-and-3 victories, never trailing once throughout the process. That all changed on Thursday’s first hole, when a birdie on the opener by Finnin, a longtime Olympia member, presented the reigning champs with their first adversity of the event. “It looked a little bleak earlier in the match,” Przybylski admitted. Birdies by Przybylski on Nos. 2 and 4 flipped the script, giving him and Seelinger a 1-up cushion. Eventually, a long birdie putt by Wright on the par-4 eighth punctuated a two-hole streak that saw the challengers move 1 up as the match neared Olympia’s iconic clocktower clubhouse and the halfway point. “We made the turn and kind of just kept the match within reach,” Przybylski said. Wright and Finnin appeared primed to double their advantage on the par-5 10th. Finnin found the green in two, with Seelinger long right and Przybylski in a bunker about 50 yards short of the elevated green. “On No. 10, it wasn’t looking good,” Przybylski recalled. However, he countered Finnin’s two-putt birdie with an impressive, lengthy up-and-down to keep the match as it was. “I think the birdie on 10 that Glenn had from the bunker was crazy,” Seelinger said. “That just negated their birdie, which was almost a given.” After both teams matched pars on No. 11, Przybylski and Seelinger made their move. Both found the green on the 170-yard par-3 12th, with Seelinger burying his six-footer for birdie to tie the match. Two pars on No. 13 were enough to inch ahead, before it was Przybylski’s turn to notch a birdie 2 on the 135-yard 14th. Suddenly, they were 2 up with five holes to play. The decisive stretch was emblematic of the synergy Przybylski and Seelinger have developed since partnering up three years ago. “[Glenn] is such a good player that we don't even think about each other's game really,” Seelinger explained. “We're just kind of focusing on the task at hand.” Two holes later, the victory was secured in the same fashion as it was at Ivanhoe Club in 2024 - a Seelinger birdie. This time it came on the 342-yard 16th. Seelinger found the fairway with the blind, uphill tee shot before skillfully playing his approach to 5 feet. With an assist from Przybylski on the read, Seelinger drained the putt to finish off Wright and Finnin. The victory marked the second three-peat in the event’s relatively brief 10-year history. Five-time winners Tim Sheppard and Tom Kearfott claimed three consecutive iterations from 2020-22 before Przybylski and Seelinger seized control of the competition. The event marked the conclusion of the CDGA’s 2025 Championship Schedule. The 2026 slate will be released on Dec. 10, with registration to open in early 2026.
